Major Disappointments of Bollywood in 2018 so far

The year 2018 has been a refreshing year for Bollywood. With the last few years being below average regarding commercial as well as critical success for Bollywood moves, this year has been a sort of game-changer for the Hindi Film Industry.

However, unlike every year, 2018 has also witnessed some disasters in Bollywood Movies. While a majority of these movies have disappointed either due to lack of script or weak direction, huge anticipation has also had an adverse effect for some movies.

Let us look at the significant disappointments for Bollywood movies this year so far-

Aiyaary- Neeraj Pandey is always known for making most enticing thriller movies like Special 26, Baby and Wednesday. So, when Aiyaary was announced in 2017, everyone anticipated it to be yet another flick of several enthralling encounters. The cast was also quite impressive with actors like Manoj Bajpayee, Anupam Kher, Naseeruddin Shah and Siddharth Malhotra in it. However, upon release, the movie was highly criticised for its sluggish pace, weak plots and unnecessary subplots. Aiyaary, therefore, tanked at Box Office collecting just 17 Crores in its lifetime collection and was made with a Budget of 60 Crores.

Race 3- Race has been a Top-rated franchise among Bollywood lovers. However, when Race 3 was announced with a completely different cast and director, it came as a shocking surprise. Remo D Souza was the new director, and Salman Khan was the main lead relacing Saif Ali Khan. However, with Salman Khan trade expectations are always high. But with the Trailer, it became very evident that the movie was nothing but a platform given by Salman Khan to some of his close ones to refresh their acting career. The film, when released got extensive negative reviews from both Audience and critics and the movie was declared as the worst movie ever made in Bollywood with no direction, lack of substance and dialogues which can be Best termed as poor.

Fanney Khan – Fanney Khan can be best termed as “A Golden Opportunity Lost.” The movie had every element which requires a movie to be blockbuster. It had emotion, drama, comedy and an appropriate social message but instead of making a masterpiece, the film went melodramatic. The movie lacked identity, and the main motto of the movie went diluted. Hence, it became a big disaster at the Box Office. Made with a budget of 35 Crores, it merely collected 10 Crores at Box Office.

Namastey England – Namestey England is a mediocre sequel of a top-rated movie Namastey London. The film was unnecessarily complicated, unconventionally funny, had over the top and illogical dialogues and moreover, the performance by the main lead Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra was below average. The move was an out and out disaster. Made with a budget of 60 Crores, Namestey England collected just 8 Crores at Box Office.

Thugs of Hindostan – And the best (or the worst) comes at the end. Thugs of Hindostan was expected to shatter every record previously held by Bollywood. The movie had the collaboration of Megastar Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan for the first time, and by the trailer and the Songs, it looked the film was quickly going to cross 500 Crores at the national box office. Upon release, the movie turned out to be extremely flat, dull and sometimes seemed irritating as well. The film made with a large budget of 300 Crores made a paltry sum of 143 Crores in India. Such a major disappointment.
