What To Know About India’s FIRST Hydrogen Fuel Cell Prototype Car

India’s Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and KPIT successfully ran trials of India’s first Hydrogen Fuel Cell (HFC) prototype car running on an indigenously developed fuel cell stack at CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory, Pune.

The fuel cell is a low temperature PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) type Fuel Cell that operates at 65-75 degree centigrade, which is suitable for vehicular applications, India’s Ministry of Science & Technology specified in a statement released on 10^th October.

CSIR and KPIT have successfully developed a 10 kWe automotive grade LT-PEMFC fuel cell stack based on CSIR’s know-how.

The heart of the PEM fuel cell technology includes the membrane electrode Assembly, which is wholly a CSIR knowhow.

KPIT brought in their expertise in stack engineering which included light-weight metal bipolar plate and gasket design, development of the balance of plant (BoP), system integration, control software and electric powertrain that enabled running the fuel cell vehicle.

The fuel cell stack uses extremely thin metal bipolar plates, thus reducing the stack weight by about two-thirds.

Researchers at the United States’ Geisinger Health System have developed an artificial intelligence (AI) model that predicts whether a person could die within a year.

Geisinger researchers have found that Artificial Intelligence can examine electrocardiogram (ECG) test results to recognize patients at risk of developing a potentially dangerous type of arrhythmia with an irregular heartbeat or of dying within a year.

In two studies, researchers used more than 2 million ECG test results from archived medical records within the Geisinger system to train deep neural networks — advanced, multi-layered computational structures — to predict irregular heart rhythms, known as atrial fibrillation (AF), before they developed, Geisinger stated in a release.

Atrial fibrillation is associated with an increased risk of Heart Attack and stroke, it said.

In 1.1 million ECGs from more than 237,000 patients who had not yet developed AF, the researchers used highly specialized computational hardware to train a deep neural network to analyze 15 segments of data.

They found that within the top 1% of high-risk patients, as predicted by the neural network, 1 out of every 3 people was diagnosed with AF within a year.

The model predictions also demonstrated longer term prognostic significance, as the patients predicted to develop AF had a 45% higher hazard rate in developing AF over the next 25 years of follow-up compared to the lower risk patients.

A study found that women experience better sexual outcomes in committed relationships compared to short-term, casual sexual relationships.

A new study found that women experience better sexual outcomes in committed relationships compared to short-term, casual sexual relationships.

Study published in “The Journal of Sex Research” however said that women who are more open to short-term, casual sexual relationships tend to experience similar levels of orgasmic function and sexual satisfaction in both committed and casual sexual contexts.

According to researchers, previous studies have found that women report more orgasm and sexual satisfaction from sex in committed relationships than from casual sex.

“We examined whether sociosexual orientation was associated with these differences, and explored the links between sociosexuality and sexual outcomes in these two sexual relationship contexts,” they said.

The researchers stated that sexually active women completed an online survey measuring sociosexual orientation, orgasmic function, and sexual satisfaction.

Participants reported sexual outcomes (orgasmic function and sexual satisfaction) with respect to their sexual activity over the past 12 months in a casual context (if applicable), and separately in a committed context (if applicable), researchers claimed.

Among women who had both casual and committed sex in the past year, orgasmic function and sexual satisfaction differed between these two relationship contexts only for more sexually restricted women (lower sociosexuality), they said.

Higher sociosexuality was associated with higher orgasmic function in casual sex and with lower sexual satisfaction in committed sex, they research findings stated.

These findings underscore the importance of examining interactions between individual differences and contextual factors when studying women’s sexual outcomes, researchers added.

Researchers sought to determine the early vascular impact of switching from Tobacco Cigarettes (TC) to Electronic Cigarettes (EC) in chronic smokers.

The study found after a randomized control trial that people who switched from smoking cigarettes to vaping experienced significant improvement in endothelial function.

Researchers in their study titled “Cardiovascular Effects of Switching From Tobacco Cigarettes to Electronic Cigarettes” found that females benefited from switching more than males did in every between-group comparison.

Within one month of switching from TC to EC, there was a significant improvement in endothelial function and vascular stiffness, study stated.

Females benefited from switching more than males did in every between-group comparison. Those who complied Best with EC switch demonstrated the largest improvement.

However, there was no difference in vascular effects between EC with and without nicotine within the study timeframe, said researchers.

Researches also said that longer follow-up is required to determine whether males also benefit to the same level as females do and whether these changes seen are sustained and to assess the impact of nicotine in EC.

There are many different EC devices available in the Market, and we tested only 1 device for consistency of effect, they stated.

Future comparative studies among different devices are required, researchers said.

From a vascular health perspective, recommendations of switching from TC to EC could be considered a vascular harms reduction measure, they said.

Further investigation is required on the long-term cardiovascular (CV) and non-CV effects of these devices, researchers added.

Addressing the virtual Latin America & Caribbean session on ‘Reimagining Distances’, during LEADS 2020, organised by FICCI on 14^th October the Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers DV Sadananda Gowda said India is the only country with largest number of US-FDA compliant Pharma plants (more than 262 including APIs) outside of USA with exports $ 20 billion worth of pharma products to various nations including high standards complying countries like US and Europe.

The Minister has said India is one of the largest manufacturers and exporters of generic medicines across the world.

According to the Minister, HCQ and Azithromycin was recognised as one of medicines under treatment protocol for covid-19 in emergency cases.

Referring to India supplying these medicines to more than 120 countries across the world; the minister underlined that India thereby earned the reputation of reliable supplier of medicines.

The minister believes that Indian pharma Sector can grow to $ 65 billion Industry by 2024.

The Minister further eMphasised that this is a very- very good time to invest, and set up manufacturing base in India in pharma Sector.

Gowda also said that the Market size of Chemicals & Petrochemicals sector in India is around 165 billion dollars.

The size is expected to grow up to 300 billion dollars by 2025, the minister said.

The Minister added that fertiliser sector is also an attractive sector in India. According to the minister, there is huge demand for fertilisers in the country.

According to Ministry’s statement released on 15^th October, India is large importers of urea, & P & K fertilisers.

For example, in 2018-19, India imported 7.5 million ton of urea, 6.6 million ton of DAP, 3 million ton of MOP and 0.5 miliion ton of NPK fertilizer.

What To Know About Power Sector Pact Between Denmark and India

India and Denmark on 5th June, 2020 signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) on Indo-Denmark energy Cooperation.

Both the nations will work on developing a strong, deep and long-term co-operation in the power sector on the basis of equality, reciprocity and mutual benefit, stated Indian Ministry of Power in a statement released on 8^th June.

The MoU was signed by Secretary (Power) from the Indian side and Ambassador of Denmark to India from the Danish side.

The MoU provides for collaboration in areas like offshore wind, long term energy planning, forecasting, flexibility in the grid, consolidation of grid codes to integrate and operate efficiently variable generation options, flexibility in the power purchase agreements, incentivize power plant flexibility, variability in renewable energy production etc.

The Indian electricity market would benefit from cooperation with Denmark in these areas, the ministry stated.

For implementation of the identified areas, a Joint Working Group (JWG) will be established under the MoU.

The ministry also said that the JWG will be co-chaired by Joint Secretary level officials and will report to a Steering Committee, jointly chaired by the Secretary level officer from both the sides.

It further added that the Governments will endeavour to take necessary steps to encourage and promote strategic and technical co-operation in the power sector for mutual benefit in the identified areas through the MoU.
