According to International Cricket Council (ICC) anti-Corruption unit, majority of bookies involved in crooked activities are from India.

On being asked if all the active corruptors in the cricket are local, ICC anti-corrupt units’ General Manager, Marshall, told ESPN Cricinfo, “in Sri Lanka it was both local and Indian corruptors. In most other parts of the world it is mostly corrupt Indian bookies.”

Marshall added they exhibited a list of corruptors to Sri Lanka and England cricket players, who are involved in a series, therefore that they are better informed.

Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria recently revealed that he was offered money from an Indian bookmaker to fix matches.

In cricket, match fixing befalls as a match is played to a completely or partially pre-determined result, violating the guidelines of the game and the law.

The ban is issued by the ICC, or by the respective cricket board to which the player belongs. A ban may be for match fixing or spot-fixing. Both cases are wrongdoings banned under the ICC Cricket Code of Conduct.
