On this day: 2 July 1985, ESA’s Giotto spacecraft was launched on the tenth Ariane 1 (flight V14), from Kourou, French Guiana. Making encounters with comets Halley in 1986 and Grigg–Skjellerup in 1992, Giotto was ESA’s first deep-space mission. It imaged a comet nucleus for the first time and found the first evidence of organic material on a comet.

Facebook is getting ready to bring new features to its users and will soon make it easy to communicate with global Audience by introducing a new software that automatically translates posts to several different languages.
As tech website CNET reported, all you have to do is type up a post, click on a pull-down menu, and add up to 45 different language translations.
The brand new feature is already being used by about 5,000 Facebook Pages which are specifically for businesses as well as brands, however it will soon open for testing to the broader Social Network.
According to Facebook, about half of its 1.65 billion users Worldwide speak a language other than English.

Real wages have risen across #India in the past two decades but the rise has been especially marked among the rural unskilled workers. Three reasons – falling rural female labor force participation, a construction boom, and increase in #agriculture prices – contributed to this increase. Going forward, with slower growth in the construction sector and lower agriculture prices, some of the factors that contributed to the increase may not be sustained over time.

An official level meeting between India and Cyprus took place in New Delhi on 28 and 29 June, 2016, to finalize the new India Cyprus Double taxation Avoidance Agreement, wherein all pending issues, including taxation of capital gains, were discussed, and in-principle agreement was reached on all pending issues.
It was agreed to provide for source based taxation of capital gains on transfer of shares.
However, a grandfathering clause would be provided for investments made prior to 1.4.2017, in respect of which capital gains would be taxed in the country of which taxpayer is a resident.
Both sides also discussed the issue of notification of Cyprus under section 94A of Income-tax Act, 1961.
It was agreed that India will consider rescinding the said notification with effect from 1st November, 2013, and will be initiating the process for the same.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved in the meeting, and hoped that it would lead to resolution of all pending matters at the earliest.
