Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s recent controversial decision on banning Telugu medium in government schools is raising several other questions.
Speaking at an event, Mr. Reddy on 11th November said, “today we are competing with the world. Without English one cannot compete.”
He also said that “I am determined so that our children get good education, our children should study in English medium schools.”
Mr. Reddy further added “all our schools should be in English medium.”
Now, the questions the need to be answered are, if all the schools in Andhra Pradesh teach only in English medium, what will happen to the students who wish to study in Telugu medium?
Moreover, what will happen to ‘Maa Telugu Talliki (To Our Mother Telugu) anthem?
The schools and official government functions start with this Song with respect towards Telugu language.
If everybody stops having education in Telugu, what would be the situation after few decades?
What made the government think only the English language would lift people out of poverty?
What’s the most important? Language? or the skill?
Does Reddy know how so many advanced economies provide education in their own languages? Be it France, Germany, Japan or Korea.
Howe come they emerged as developed economies?
Doesn’t it make sense?
