Indian Automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki is planning to stop selling its diesel cars from the month of April next year.

India’s leading Carmaker on 25th of April said the company would stop selling diesel cars from April 2020 once BS-VI emission norms become effective.

Approximately 23% of cars sold by the company in Indian Market are diesel vehicles.

Company’s chairman R.C. Bhargava was quoted as saying, “If you are a fan of Maruti diesel cars then you have a year to buy one.”

Factors Forced Maruti Suzuki Stop Selling Diesel Cars.

The Chairman also stated, “We have taken this decision so that in 2022 we are able to meet the Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency norms and higher Share of CNG vehicles will help us comply with the norms. I hope the union government’s Policies will help grow the market for CNG vehicles.”

As of July 2018, Maruti Suzuki had a market share of 53% of the Indian passenger car market.

Diesel cars accounted for about 23% of Maruti Suzuki’s annual sales.
