For the first time, Indian Army will have women military police, as the Army on 25th of April started recruiting women Jawans.

The Indian Army began recruiting women jawans by releasing an advertisement calling for women to join as Soldier General Duty (Women Military Police).

The decision came after the Ministry of defence announced the decision in January that women will be welcomed as jawans in the Army.

Up till now, women in the Army were only being recruited in officer ranks.

As of now, all wings of the Indian Armed Forces allow women in combat roles and combat supervisory roles, except Indian Army and Special Forces of India.

Indian Air Force had 13.09% and 8.5%, Indian Navy 6% and 2.8% women, and Indian Army 3.80% and 3% in December 2018 and December 2014 respectively.
