Mizoram governor quits ahead polls

In an unusual development, President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday accepted the resignation of Mizoram Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan. Governor of Assam, Jagdish Mukhi has been given additional charge of the state and will eject the duties of the Mizoram governor.

Reports say Rajasekharan on a BJP ticket is likely to contest from the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat and will take on Congress’sitting MP Shashi Tharoor and the CPM.

While Rajasekharan was appointed the Governor, there was a call to remove him from the post as he was an agile member of the RSS and was involved with the Hindu Aikya Vedi and the VHP.
