Andhra Pradesh: ‘Chandranna Christmas Kanuka’ to Burden Tax Payers?

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu is continuing the trend of Chandranna Sankranti Kanuka for Hindus and Chandranna Ramzan Tofa for Muslims by announcing Chandranna Christmas Kanuka for Christians this year.

For this Christmas festival, Christians with white ration card will get a bag of half kilogram of red gram, half kilogram of jiggery, half litre of palm oil, one kilogram of Bengal gram, one kilogram of atta and 100 ml of ghee. The packaged gifts will be made available for distribution across all Public Distribution System (PDS) outlets in the state from 22nd December.

The expense for this programme is expected to cost huge Rs 300 Crore on the state exchequer but state government seems to be desperate to promote the Chief Minister’s name through these gifts on festive occasions.

On the other hand, Opposition parties are criticizing Babu for his over expense despite the state being in financial crunch. Moreover, Call Money and Spurious Liquor issues have become weapons for opposition to target Chandrababu and ruling TDP.
