Carl Djerassi, father of birth control pill passes away

Carl Djerassi (91),a Stanford chemist broadly considered the father of the birth control pill, has died.

Djerassi was a key contributor to the invention of the birth control pill.

Later in his career, he turned to writing novels on mixing science and literature, and he considered himself a chemist, writer, teacher and philanthropist.

As reports say, Djerrasi died of entanglements of cancer in his San Francisco home.

Carl Djerassi is survived by a son, Dale Djerassi; a stepdaughter, Leah Middlebrook; and a grandson, Alexander M. Djerassi.
