China’s ‘.cn’ Becomes World’s Largest Domain

China’s country code domain ‘.cn’ has now become the World’s Largest domain with over 16.36 million users.

According to the data released by the China internet Network Information Centre (CNNIC), which manages the ‘.cn’ domain, their domain has 16.36 million users by the end of 2015, thus surpassing Germany’s ‘.de’ domain.

The ‘.cn’ domain is also world leader in domain resolution service, Security and the ratio of benign uses. As China began to require real name registration in 2009, the ‘.cn’ domain was introduced to protect interests of users and reduce online theft and phishing.

The ‘.cn’ domain is not only used by Chinese institutions but also by overseas multinationals. It is also used by all central and provincial government institutions in China and many telecom companies and commercial banks. China has around 670 million internet users and 4.13 million websites.

In the past, Germany’s ‘.de’ domain had the largest number of websites.
