Coca Cola Causes Water Scarcity in Modi’s Constituency

Prime Minister Narenda Modi has been coming under the scanner regularly for his lack of action towards the issue faced by people of his represented Varanasi constituency.

As per latest reports, 18 village councils in Varanasi constituency demand action against Coca Cola bottling plant in the area as the excess usage of ground water by the soft drink firm has led to water shortage.

Villagers of Mehdiganj in Varanasi are complaining that they have been facing water scarcity ever since the Coca Cola plant was set up in the area in 1999.

18 elected Village Councils joined hands with people of Mehdiganj to fight against local Coca Cola plant alleging that Coca Cola extracting ground water in the area is making their lives miserable.

The village councils are urging the State Pollution Control Board to prohibit the firm from extracting the ground water or cancel its license.

On the other hand, Hindustan Coca-Cola beverages Pvt ltd claims that as per a 2012 Study conducted by Central Ground Water Board, the water scarcity in the area wasn’t due to their plant.

It has to be seen what Nation-Roaming Modi will do now?
