The new decision by the Arvind Kejriwal government will be effective form 1st January 2016. The rule will also be imposed on the vehicles entering Delhi from other states. However, this rule will not be applicable to public vehicles.

As per a latest survey, Delhi has more cars (private vehicles) than other major cities Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai combined. Each day, about 1,000 cars are being introduced on Delhi roads, as per this survey.

The Delhi High Court has recently announced that vehicular emissions and dust particles as the main causes of air pollution in the capital city. The Delhi Court has also instructed both the center and state governments not to permit any major constructions without checking the pollution levels.
