Japanese swimmer Rikako Ikee, who won six Gold Medals as well as two silver medals at the Asian games 2018, has been named as the quadrennial event’s Most Valuable Player.

The 18-year-old became the first female athlete to bag the honour in the history of Asian Games.

Ikee also received a cheque of $50,000.

After returning to Japan, Ikee learned that she had won the Most Valuable Player award for the tournament, the first for a female athlete at the Games. She then returned to Indonesia to collect the trophy and prize money.

Ikee is also the national record holder in the 50-meter freestyle and the 100-meter butterfly, and the junior world record holder in the 50-meter freestyle and 50-meter butterfly long-course events, and the 50- and 100-meter butterfly, and 100-meter individual medley in short course.
