India Declares Holiday On Birthday of Babasaheb Ambedkar

Government of India has declared a public holiday on birthday of social reformer Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, popularly known as Babasaheb Ambedkar.

April 14 has been declared as a holiday for all Central Government offices, including industrial establishments, throughout India.

April 14 has been declared as a holiday for all Central government offices, including industrial establishments, throughout India.

Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions issued a memorandum announcing the public holiday on account of birthday of Dr BR Ambedkar.

BR Ambedkar was independent India’s first law and justice minister, the architect of the Constitution of India, and a founding father of the Republic of India.

In India and elsewhere, he was often called Babasaheb, meaning “respected father”.

In 1990, the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, was posthumously conferred upon Ambedkar.

Ambedkar’s legacy includes numerous memorials and depictions in popular culture.
