India slams Pakistan for violating Geneva Conventions

As per experts, Pakistan violated the Geneva conventions by releasing a purported video showing him tied up and bloodied on social media and Pakistan’s television news channels.

According to India, this was “in violation of all norms of International Humanitarian Law and the Geneva Convention.”

Based on the video, Indian media has identified the pilot as Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman.

Following the aerial encounter between IAF and PAF, an Indian pilot was taken under Pakistan’s custody yesterday. There were calls to treat him humanely and under the Geneva Conventions.
Geneva conventions prohibit war prisoners from being tortured and lay down the standards to be followed on treating them humanely.
As per experts, Pakistan violated the Geneva conventions by releasing a purported video showing him tied up and bloodied on social media and Pakistan’s television news channels.
According to India, this was “in violation of all norms of International Humanitarian Law and the Geneva Convention.”

However, the video was soon removed from their official Twitter accounts by the Pakistan government.
Based on the video, Indian media has identified the pilot as Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman. Other videos soon emerged, showing him drinking tea with Pakistani officials and telling the camera that he was well treated.
India’s Foreign Ministry said that they strongly objected to Pakistan’s vulgar display of injured personnel in violation of Geneva Conventions. India has announced that it expects “his immediate and safe return.”
