Kamma farmers Received 4 Times The Actual Land Value, But Kapus Were Left Out: French Political Scientist.

Popular French political scientist Christophe Jaffrelot in an article published by The New Indian Express said, farmers of Kamma community in the Andhra Pradesh’s capital (Amaravati) region were given compensation four times the actual land value.

Article titled “Kapu agitation in Andhra Pradesh is for political dominance and economic mobility”, written by Christophe Jaffrelot said, “the struggles around land acquisition in the new capital (Amaravati) region fostered resentment among Kapus who felt discriminated.”

Why Kapus felt discriminated?

Mr. Jaffrelot said “because when land was purchased to build the capital under the land pooling Initiative, Kamma farmers were given compensation four times the actual land value whereas the land owned by Kapus were left out”.

“In effect, Kapus could neither cultivate nor sell their land at remunerative rates,” Jaffrelot said.
