Private Hospitals to Stall Arogyasri in TS over Rs 200 Crore Dues

Telangana Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes’ Association (THANA) has threatened the state government that they will stall the Arogyasri services in nearly 170 hospitals across the state if the dues of Rs. 200 Crore is not paid soon.

Always in news for being one of the few states with a surplus budget, it is surprising that Telangana can’t pay Rs. 200 Crore dues to nearly 170 private hospitals. It is said that the dues have accumulated over the last five and a half months and health department is in deep financial crisis.

Since June 2, 2014, as many as 2,81,548 poor patients got Arogyasri medical benefits. The TS government spent Rs 774 crore for this. If services are stalled, it will affect millions of poor Arogyasri beneficiaries belonging to Below Poverty Line (BPL).

The hospitals have not yet decided the date for stalling of Aarogyasri service but after discussing the issue at a recent meet, THANA sent a notice to the Aarogyasri Health Care Trust (AHCT) to clear the dues of Rs 200 Crore soon. It is waiting for the response of government.
