Telangana Govt requests PM Modi to name DRDO after APJ Abdul Kalam

Government of Telangana on Sunday (2nd August) requested the central government that the Hyderabad based defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), be referred to as after former President APJ Abdul Kalam.

As outlined by a release issued by the Chief Minister’s office, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this respect, saying the research done by DRDO has served the nation in direction of attaining self-Reliance in the defence sector.

“Under Abdul Kalam’s direction, when he was Director of DRDO, a number of research works were carried out in the organisation boosting country’s self-reliance in defence systems,” KCR mentioned.

“Kalam had put in endeavours that ensured establishing of several defence organisations such as DRDL, RCI and MIDHANI in Hyderabad,” he added.

“Naming DRDO after Kalam, who had close association with Hyderabad city, would inspire the future generations and in addition pay rich tributes to Kalam.” KCR mentioned.
