Today is spacewalk day! We’ve been working hard since 6h30 this morning to go out the door in time. Lots of procedures to don the suits, check them again, get all the equipment ready, and also perform a long pure oxygen pre-breathe protocol (a spacewalk is like scuba diving but reversed, in terms of pressure). Shane and NASA Astronaut Peggy Whitson went out the door, and I handed them over to ESA astronaut Luca Parmitano, guiding them through the procedure, from JSC in Houston. I’ll be in charge of the ISS until they come back, and I’ll get everything ready for their return.
