The European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on 16th of October inaugurated brand-new labour law agency called European Labour Authority.

The labour law enforcement agency has started its activities with an inaugural ceremony and the first meeting of its management Board.

The launch takes place two years after European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker announced the idea for such an Authority in his 2017 State of the Union address before the European Parliament.

What does European Labour Authority do?

The agency will contribute to fostering fairness and mutual trust in the Internal Market by ensuring that EU labour rules are enforced in a fair, simple and effective way.

To this end, the Authority will support Member States in matters relating to cross-border labour mobility, including rules on the free movement of workers, the posting of workers and the coordination of social Security systems.

It will also enhance cooperation between Member States in tackling undeclared work.
