The World Health Organization (WHO) on 24th of April has released a new guideline on physical activity, sedentary behavior, and sleep for children under 5 years of age.

According to its guidelines, screen time for children aged 2-4 should not be exceeded an hour a day and children under 1-year should not be allowed to use electronic screens at all.

The guidelines also said, children between 1-4 years of age should spend at least 3 hours a day in a variety of physical activities.

The WHO guidelines further revealed that “the pattern of overall 24-hour activity is key: replacing prolonged restrained or sedentary screen time with more active play, while making sure young children get enough good-quality sleep. Quality sedentary time spent in interactive non-screen-based activities with a caregiver, such as reading, storytelling, singing and puzzles, is very important for child development.”
